  • Yakira Teitel, MD, MPH
    Director, Health Services

    Yakira Teitel, MD, MPH

    Director, Health Services

    Yakira Teitel, MD, MPH (she/her) is the Director of Health Services at Bard College. She received her MD from the University of California San Francisco, her Master's in Public Health and BA from Columbia University and completed her residency training in Family and Community Medicine at UCSF/San Francisco General Hospital. Prior to joining Bard, she provided primary care and adolescent care to a diverse population through the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Her clinical interests include community health, reproductive health, sexual health (including HIV care and PrEP), gender-affirming care and harm reduction. 
     
    Outside of work, Yakira is an experienced visual artist and novice gardener. She was born and raised in San Francisco, CA but now lives in Tivoli with her husband, toddler and dog. She misses the California coast and mountains but loves the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley. 
  • Andrea Provan, RN, MS, FNP

    Andrea Provan, RN, MS, FNP

    Assistant Director, Health Services

    Andrea (she/her) received a BA in biology from the College of the Holy Cross and a BSN and MSN from Pace University as a family nurse practitioner in 1995. Andrea has worked in student health at Boston University, conducted research at an STD clinic in Birmingham, AL, as well as having experience at Cornerstone, a drug detox and rehab facility in Rhinebeck.

    Outside of Bard, Andrea is busy keeping up with her 2 young adult children and several animals. She is originally from Jamaica (West Indies), and has also lived in France, Boston, Birmingham.
  • Belinda (Bel) Casivant, RN, MSN, ANP

    Belinda (Bel) Casivant, RN, MSN, ANP


    Bel (she/her) received her MSN from Sage Graduate School in Troy, NY. She holds an AA in Nursing from Columbia Green Community College and a BS in Psychology from SUNY Albany. She has a wealth of knowledge having worked in endocrinology.

    When not at work, she loves spending time with family, participating in outdoor activities including snowmobiling, reading and sewing/crafts.

    Emmet Phipps (they/he) is a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in caring for trans/non-binary and LGBQ++ people with a weight-neutral and harm reduction approach. Emmet enjoys printmaking and hiking and swimming in the Hudson Valley.
  • Angela Cavanna, DO, FAOSM

    Angela Cavanna, DO, FAOSM


    Dr. Cavanna (she/her) has been a consulting physician at Bard for more than two decades. She is trained in Internal Medicine and fellowship-trained in Sports Medicine. She received her BS in biology at St. John’s University and later went on to receive her medical education at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Cavanna is a member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine and is well known throughout the sports medicine community.

    Clara Mixco

    Office Manager

    Clara Mixco (she/her) is originally from El Salvador and she has lived in the Hudson Valley area since 2002. Clara went to Dutchess Community College and before coming to Bard she worked for more than ten years in the Hospitality Industry where she held different managerial positions. Outside of work Clara enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking and camping with family and friends.
  • Jonathan Aldebot
    Administrative Assistant 

    Jonathan Aldebot


    Jonathan (he/him/his) is originally from NYC and has lived in the Hudson Valley area since 2004. Jonathan went to both Fordham University and transferred to the University at Buffalo where he earned his B.F.A. in Communications with a concentration in film/media studies. Prior to working at Bard, Jonathan had the opportunity to work within different fields including independent film start-ups, media and corporate insurance industries. Outside of work Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, dabbling in video, photography and listening to his vinyl collection which consists mostly of film scores and soundtracks, reading and watching movies.

Our Goals

To promote the idea that health care is a partnership between the student and the health care provider.
To promote physical, emotional, intellectual, and social well-being through preventive and primary care.
To promote a holistic and integrative approach to student health care.
To provide health education to students and the Bard community.
To advocate for students with regard to health care and health equity issues.

Confidentiality

The Health Services staff abides by professional, ethical, and mandated standards of confidentiality regarding protected health information for those who seek care. When you come to Health Services for an appointment, we will not share protected information about your health with anyone, including family members, faculty, or staff unless you expressly give your consent for us to do so. 

The exception to medical confidentiality is a situation that is assessed to be a grave danger to the health and safety of the student or others. In that event, no more than necessary information would be released. Health Services visits are not entered on your official college record. 

Student health records are maintained in accordance with professional and legal guidelines. Protected health information is kept in locked files in the Health Services offices or in secure third party data centers that meet the highest data security standards.
